How to get a LinkedIn job link

By Byte Bright, the team behind Ace That Interview · Last updated October 2026

LinkedIn is fussier than most sites about links, because the address in your browser often carries tracking information on the end of it.

Here is how to get a link that points at one job, and what to do when LinkedIn will not let that link be read.

What a correct LinkedIn job link looks like

Every real LinkedIn job advert has a numeric job id, and the canonical link puts it after /jobs/view/.

One specific job — this works
https://www.linkedin.com/jobs/view/3847291056/
A search, a collection, or a feed — none of these point at one job
https://www.linkedin.com/jobs/
https://www.linkedin.com/jobs/search/?keywords=accountant&location=Melbourne
https://www.linkedin.com/jobs/collections/recommended/
https://www.linkedin.com/feed/

Two ways to get it

From the job page

  • Open the job so the full advert is showing on its own page.
  • Look at the address bar. You want the part that looks like /jobs/view/ followed by a number.
  • If your address has a long tail after the number starting with a question mark, you can leave it on — it still points at the right job. Trimming it to just the number keeps it tidy.

From the Share menu

On the job advert there is usually a Share or Copy link option. LinkedIn gives you a shorter link of its own, which is reliable because LinkedIn generated it rather than your browser.

On a phone: Copying the address bar in the LinkedIn app is awkward. Use Share, then Copy link, rather than trying to select the URL from the address bar.

Why LinkedIn links can fail to load

LinkedIn deliberately blocks automated readers. We tested this directly: a request made on a user’s behalf is refused by LinkedIn, consistently, even though the same page opens perfectly in a browser.

That is not something we can work around, and it is not something you did wrong. It is why every job input also accepts pasted text.

Pasting the description instead

  • On the job page, select the description with your mouse — from the job title down to the end of the requirements.
  • Copy it, then switch the job input to Paste job description and paste.
  • This works identically for LinkedIn, Seek, Indeed, Trade Me, or a company’s own careers page.
One thing to watch: When you paste, include the requirements and responsibilities. Those lines are what the practice questions are built from — a pasted page containing only the job title gives us very little to work with.

Frequently asked

The link works in my browser but not here — is it broken?

No. Your link is fine. LinkedIn refuses automated readers, so we cannot fetch it on your behalf. Switch to pasting the description and you will get exactly the same result.

Do I need a LinkedIn account to practise?

No. If you can see the advert, you can copy its text. A free Ace That Interview account is all you need.

What about "Easy Apply" jobs?

They are ordinary adverts with an easier application button. The link format is the same, and the text can be copied the same way.
